CLI Changes¶

check now rejects explicit non-.py file operands - Previously, passing a non-.py file (e.g., notes.txt) to t-linter check was silently ignored. It now emits a file-read-error diagnostic with message "Explicit file operands must use the .py extension" and exits with code 2. Scripts or CI pipelines that pass non-Python files to check will see new failures. (#50)

Language Detection Changes¶

Diagnostic messages and positions for JSON parse errors changed - Backend error messages are now passed through directly from the upstream parser (e.g., "Expected a JSON value." instead of "Invalid json syntax in template string"), and column offsets shifted by 1 (e.g., column 46 → 47). Tools that parse diagnostic message text or rely on exact column positions will need updating. (#50)
Template-typed required parameters now checked in tdom components - Previously, required parameters with a template_language annotation were exempt from the missing-required-prop check in tdom components. Now only children is exempt, so required template-typed props (other than children) that are missing will produce component-missing-prop diagnostics. (#51)

Default Behavior Changes¶

Process working directory removed from Python module search roots - python_search_roots() no longer implicitly includes the process's current working directory. Only PYTHONPATH, the explicit --search-root, and virtualenv roots are used. Users who relied on CWD-based implicit module resolution for template language inference may see templates that previously had a detected language now treated as untyped. (#50)
Range formatting now uses half-open boundary semantics - ranges_overlap changed from inclusive (<=) to strict half-open (<) comparisons. A zero-width cursor at a template's end position no longer triggers formatting for that template, and ranges that merely touch a template boundary without overlapping are no longer considered overlapping. Editor integrations that relied on the old inclusive boundary behavior may see different formatting results at template boundaries. (#50)
Dataclass-based tdom components now have signatures analyzed - Python @dataclass classes used as tdom components now have their fields analyzed as constructor parameters, producing component-missing-prop and component-prop-type-error diagnostics. Previously these components had no analyzed signature and no prop diagnostics were emitted. Supports ClassVar (excluded), KW_ONLY, InitVar, field(init=False), and field(default=...) semantics. (#51)

LSP Protocol Changes¶

Unknown tdom component props now reported as diagnostics - Previously, unknown attributes on tdom components were silently ignored to match older tdom runtime semantics. Now, props not in the component signature produce a component-unexpected-prop diagnostic unless the component accepts **kwargs. Users must add **kwargs to component signatures that intentionally accept arbitrary attributes, or suppress the new diagnostics. (#51)
children prop is now always rejected as a tdom attribute - Passing children as an explicit attribute to a tdom component now always produces a component-unexpected-prop diagnostic with the message "tdom reserves it for component children", regardless of the component signature. Code that previously set children as an attribute must use nested content instead. (#51)

--ruff-command default changed from "ruff" to auto-discovery - The flag is now optional; when omitted, the server searches VIRTUAL_ENV, CONDA_PREFIX, workspace .venv/venv directories, and uv run before falling back to ruff on PATH. LSP Protocol Changes¶

ruffFormat initialization option renamed to ruffPipeline - LSP clients that pass ruffFormat in initializationOptions must rename the key to ruffPipeline. The command field inside this object is now optional (omit to enable auto-discovery) (#44)
Ruff pipeline now runs fixAll and organizeImports before formatting - Previously the pipeline only ran textDocument/formatting against Ruff. It now executes source.fixAll.ruff, source.organizeImports.ruff, and then formatting in sequence, which may produce additional edits compared to the old behavior (#44)

Configuration Changes¶

VS Code setting t-linter.format.runRuffFirst renamed to t-linter.format.runRuffPipeline - Users with this setting in their VS Code settings.json must update the key name (#44)

Default Behavior Changes¶

Code action errors from the Ruff pipeline are now silently skipped - When Ruff returns transient errors during code action generation (e.g., source.fixAll), the LSP server now logs a warning and returns an empty action list instead of propagating the error to the client. This improves resilience but may mask Ruff configuration problems that previously surfaced as visible errors (#44)

LSP Protocol Changes¶

Range formatting now rejects selections containing multiple template strings - Previously, range formatting would silently format all templates within the selected range. It now returns a JSON-RPC internal error when more than one template string overlaps the requested range, requiring exactly one template to be targeted. LSP clients relying on multi-template range formatting will need to issue separate requests per template or use the new source.fixAll.t-linter code action for document-wide formatting. (#37)

Formatting output changed for triple-quoted template strings containing quotes - Plain quotes inside triple-quoted strings (e.g., """...""") are no longer unnecessarily escaped. For example, \" inside a triple-double-quoted string is now preserved as ". This is a correctness fix but changes the formatted output for affected files. (#31)

HTML validation backend switched from tree-sitter to tstring-html - HTML templates annotated with "html" are now validated through the tstring-html Rust backend instead of tree-sitter parsing. This may produce different diagnostics, messages, or source locations for existing templates. (#21)

Default Behavior Changes¶

t-linter format now pretty-formats HTML and T-HTML templates by default. Projects that previously saw no formatting changes for these templates may now get rewrites. (#24)
Installed package inference was generalized, so more imported annotations can influence template language detection during check and format. Previously untyped templates may now produce diagnostics or formatting changes. (#25)

CLI Changes¶

Added --line-length <N> to t-linter format for HTML and T-HTML formatting. CLI precedence is --line-length > pyproject.toml > default 80. (#24)

Template language inference from annotated call parameters - Templates passed as arguments to functions or class constructors with Annotated[Template, "lang"] parameters now inherit the annotated language. This applies to both local and imported callables (when Python source or stubs can be resolved). Previously unlinted templates may now produce diagnostics (e.g., YAML validation errors), which could cause CI pipelines to fail. (#20)

Default Behavior Changes¶

Linting and formatting now use file-path context for import resolution - lint_source and the CLI formatter now resolve the file's directory to follow imports and infer template languages from external callable signatures. This means linting/formatting results may differ from previous runs even on unchanged files if imported modules contain annotated parameters. (#20)
